Principally Merlot, this opaque, deep crimson Fronsac has a remarkably rich and complex character (not to mention a high alcohol level) for a Bordeaux of this classification level. There's some classic cassis undertones, but at this point the flavors are dominated by mouth-coating, ripe blueberry and black raspberry fruit. Extremely rich in the mouth, wonderfully balanced, but also powerfully structured - there's still a lot of mouth-puckering tannin left, especially if this wine is drunk without food. But what a steal this was when purchased in futures! I'm going to try to let the wine blossom for another two years before opening another bottle, but that's not going to be easy. - HK 2016-01-07
