Deep golden color. A little funky (sulfur?) when first opened, but this dissipates quickly to reveal a complex nose that includes apricot, exotic herbs and spices, sweet straw, an intense honeyed edge, and a distant burnt-sugar note. Still young, the flavor and mouth feel seem a little muted compared to the nose, but the acidity keeps it lively. This is obviously not a delicate German Riesling but an idiosyncratic, in-your-face Alsatian. I really liked this wine, but I can also see how it might be controversial in a blind Riesling tasting. - HK 2017-06-30
