Superb, rich, layered dry white from perhaps the best Savennieres producer. Expansive, complex, floral-tinged nose, buttery pear/citrus and butterscotch flavors with excellent balance and persistence. Dom. Baumard Savennieres are available in some U.S. stores for $22 or so, though we were lucky enough to visit the estate several years ago and pick up a bottle there for about $10! I would have imported cases of this stuff at that price if that were possible. This noble Chenin Blanc is about as far from the vapid stuff often produced from this grape as Grand Cru Chablis is from the California "Chablis" that used to clutter up the jug wine shelves at the grocery store. - HK 2002-06-04
