This is a burly, masculine, French-style Syrah. Lots of tannic structure, but with plenty of poop to fill it out. Nose highlighted by a core of deep, dark licorice and charcoal smoke, along with loads of spicy dark currant, blackberry, and a hint of blueberry fruit. Firm, almost austere, but very satisfying and long. This wine has not yet reached its peak but is delicious even now. Tasted blind, it was similar in structure and flavor profile to a really full-bodied young Claret. High in alcohol, but I could not detect any heat whatever in the beautifully balanced mouth feel. - HK 2012-12-28
