It's hard to keep the lower-priced Aussie's straight -- there's Black Swan, Yellow Tail, and now Black Wing (which is some sort of second label made by Step Rd Winery). But this Black Wing is the real article and blows away any inexpensive Shiraz I've ever tasted (not to mention blowing away 99.9% of the inexpensive reds in the market). Rich cherry/blueberry fruit, mouth-caressing texture, a ton of black pepper. I suppose this is not the most complex wine in the world, but the pleasure-to-price ratio is pretty much unbeatable. - HK 2005-04-21
