Like the Castano Hecula tasted alongside it, this wine may be under-rated because of its youth. Still tight and traditionally made, but opens up nicely with airing. Inky dark color, smoky berry and dark currant fruit, lots of spicy oak and some floral components in its perfume. Classic, balanced mouth feel. An outstanding bargain, this wine blows away virtually all other reds we've tasted in this price range. Unfortunately it's been Parkerized (to his credit: that's how we found out about it!), so may not be easy to find. - WB team 2003-02-11
