Opulence with a capital "O". Cascades of tooth-staining, ultra-ripe Cabernet fruit and spicy oak flood across the palate in this classic, uncompromising California fruit bomb - dark currants, dark berries, sage, mint, vanilla, sweet spice, violets. There is plenty of tannin to give it structure for the long haul, I'm sure, but it is buried in the fruit, as is the alcohol. Great presence in the mouth and finish. Not what I would call perfumed and complex at this point, but it makes up for that in succulence and depth and sheer deliciousness. I am indebted to my brother in law Bob D. who has given me the chance to try numerous remarkable wines over the years, including this one. There aren't many wines over $100 that I can say are worth springing for, but this is one of them. - HK 2012-05-13
