What a difference a few years makes. This wine now shows a somewhat dark red color with a touch of chocolate, and very ripe, earthy fruit flavors with a strong dose of sweet figs and spice, like the inside of a fig newton. Rich and fairly open-knit at this point, flavorful with good length. [Orig review, 1/22/2005: The lowest-level CDP from one of the great winemakers of the Rhone, purchased during another great sale from Premier Cru. Bright ruby red color, though not particularly dense in appearance. Still very tightly structured, it nevertheless displays an excellent nose of currants, spicy raspberry fruit, and flowers. Tannic and a bit tough in the mouth, this wine needs food to accompany it at this point. Will probably blossom into something with a lot more charm than it has now. Rating: 87.] - HK 2009-04-05
