This wine is exactly the same as the Coffaro Russian River Zin tasted six months ago, except it spent some additional months in oak before being released. The previously tasted Zin was already excellent, but I think I'd give this one the nod overall. Perhaps it's the extra oak aging, or perhaps it's just because it's aged in the cellar a bit longer. In any case, the nature of the fruit and flavor is unchanged, but the extra-aged version seems slightly deeper and spicier. Crunchy Russian River fruit - sweet cranberry, dark cherry, plum - with an extra layer of smokey oak and spiciness. Round and full in the mouth and finish but with plenty of tart acidity to keep it fresh and lively. - HK 2014-11-18
