What a disappointment! -- this bottle had obviously slipped well past its prime. Its muddy, amber-tinged color foreshadowed a wine with woody cassis in the nose and flavors, a dusty and acidic mouth feel, a clipped finish, and little body or complexity. There was just enough vestige of Bordeaux character to keep the rating respectable. This review certainly has nothing to do with the quality of this majestic second-growth vineyard, and everything to do with the risks associated with drinking older bottles. Virtually every other '85 Bordeaux we have tried has been superb. - WB team 2003-01-10
