2007 Delas Cotes du Rhone Saint-Esprit Cotes du Rhone, France WB Rating: 85 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $9.99 (K&L, Redwood City CA) Type: Rhone Principal varietal(s): Grenache, Syrah When first tasted back in 2009 and 2010, this was a full-bodied, muscular Cotes du Rhone at an exceptionally good price point. Opaque purple in color, it had a powerful and mouth-filling texture full of berry fruit and cherry liqueur, as well as a lively peppery edge. Now (2012) the wine has become softer and less assertive, its aromas and flavors funkier, more muddied, and less lively and interesting. A nice every-day red, but it just didn't live up to what I had hoped for it. The secret is to drink wines like this when they're young and full of spunk. - HK 2012-07-08 [Back] |
