Echelon is one of the Chalone wineries producing reasonably priced , reasonable quality wines. This wine had a deep red color, a pleasant nose and flavors of bitter chocolate and black cherries and a hint of smoke. Medium bodied, pleasant mouth feel, slightly tannic finish indicating a year or two of evolution. Not particuarly complex but a well-made wine that goes well with food. - HK 2000-08-29
