1986 Chateau Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France WB Rating: 93 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $32.00 (Library wine) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): Bordeaux blend This was opened with some hesitation since '86 was reputedly a year producing very tannic and long-lived wines. But it was drinking perfectly. Brilliant crimson/purple color. Intriguing, complex nose with the quinitessential Bordeaux cassis, but with added notes of extremely ripe, nearly prune-like fruit. Wonderful, perfectly balanced mouth feel that continued through a full mid-range to a lingering finish that was almost sweet from the ripeness of the fruit. First-growth quality wine! - HK 2000-12-31 [Back] |
