| 2009 Hartford Zinfandel Russian River Old Vines Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 16.1% Price at time of purchase: $35.00 (Winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Hartford makes some other-worldly Zinfandels in the $55 range, but their basic Russian River offering - while lacking the structure and power of its more expensive siblings - is superb as well. Ripe blackberry fruit tinged with plum, black cherry, vanilla, and spicy oak notes. Beautifully balanced, fresh and energetic, and already drinking well at age 2. I was amazed to find the alcohol was 16.1% in this wine, as it's completely masked by the wine's richness and balance. - HK 2011-10-14 [Back] |
