Another prehistoric wine extracted from the cellar of our friend J. Colbert, which he was gracious enough to share with us. This sweet white wine, from a less-than-stellar year (Robert Parker called 1977 "miserable" in his book on Bordeaux), was still amazingly tasty at age 26. Much lighter and less honeyed than the typical Sauternes, this Lafaurie-Peyraguey still had some flavorful pear fruit and an attractive spicy clove-like component. Not deep or complex or long, but a reasonable acid balance was still present, making this wine a pleasant dessert companion. - HK 2003-01-20
