Less evolved and round than the 2012 was at this early stage, but the 2013 Grand Detour still has the same character of savory, spicy Pinot fruit. Definite black cherry fruit as the wine airs, but also a lot of pomegranate and dark currant when first opened. Also has that hint of Dr. Pepper-like complexity of flavor hiding in the background. Obviously well-balanced, but it feels like this wine still needs some time to come together fully. I'd be inclined to wait another year or so before popping another one. My guess is that at that point I will have under-rated this one. - HK 2016-02-04
