The last of the Laurent '97 bargains from Premier Cru. An excellent wine and terrific bargain, though we found this one less compelling than the two Nuits St. George wines. Slightly muddy purple color. Nice aromatics when first opened, with red raspberry fruit and a very pleasant sweet floral component, almost like dried gardenias. As the wine aired, a hint of nuts also appeared at the edge of the profile. After about an hour, the wine became a little more leafy and a little less fruity, almost Bordeaux-like in the opinion of one taster. Good wine though a bit down the ladder from some of the other Laurent 97's. - HK 2001-12-18
