2006 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County
Sonoma County, California

Alcohol by volume: 13.9%
Price at time of purchase: $11.99 (K&L)

Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux
Principal varietal(s): Cabernet Sauvignon

Serious Cabernet for the price. The only reason I didn't rate this deeply colored, opaque wine any higher is that the aromas came across as very muted and inexpressive in two separate tastings over about a six month period - unlike the smokey dark currant and cherry flavors, which were ripe, full, and varietally right-on. Despite its modest price, this somewhat tannic and classically structured wine may be several years from its peak, and if its aromas open up, I will have under-rated it. It's not clear how Martini did it for this price, but I'm all for it. - HK 2009-08-30
