This wine was tasted compliments of a wine-club member friend who obtained this gem for $23.50, giving it an astonishingly good price/performance ratio. I've had some of the other exceptional single-vineyard Zins from Pezzi King, and I can only guess this wine is from younger vines or is somehow culled from the "grand cru." Either way, this is an absolutely delicious bargain that I assume is designed to be drunk young. It has layers of jammy blackberry, dark cherry, and plum/prune notes that cascade over the palate, as well as sweet oaky spicy notes. There's a hint of heat in the nose but otherwise this wine is seamless, rich, and velvety smooth without being over-ripe or overdone in any way. I would be hard-pressed to name a better Zin bargain I've tasted in recent memory. - HK 2016-08-26
