One of our absolute favorite Bordeaux's and typically the equivalent of a first growth. We've had several bottles of this wine in the past, and the '86 was, in its time, a sensational mid-90 point wine. But in this tasting it was obviously losing its punch. Still had an attractive level of classic cedar and cigar box aromas (though no detectable fruit), but in the flavors and finish it was soft and one-dimensional, without the necessary structure to hold it together. A classy wine, still eminently drinkable but in decline. - HK, GK 2005-12-26
