Maybe it was the rich food it was served with, but the 2012 Lytton Springs came across as strikingly silky and forward for this vineyard at such an early age. Beautifully balanced, ripe dark berry flavors, sweet spices, seamless texture. I'm guessing this wine has some further development to go given the quality of the vintage. At this point I don't strongly prefer it over the 2011, a lower-alcohol wine from a much colder vintage that had considerably more Zin and considerably less Petite Sirah in the blend. What an incredibly consistent wine this is from year to year! - HK 2016-07-27
