Another old Jimsomare in a vertical accumulated in my innocent youth. This was not nearly as forward or fruity as the '92, and not as far from the Zin calibration curve as the '90. With its "low" alcohol content, I expected the '91 to be an earthy, herbal, claret-like Jimsomare, so what emerged was a pleasant surprise. The wine had attractive, forward berry and dark cherry components along with smoky oak and tobacco. Not especially rich feeling, but well balanced and fun to drink. Perhaps drying out just a tad in the finish. Needed a little more length and pizzazz to be rated higher. - HK 2002-11-25
