Deep (nearly opaque) ruby purple in color, this wine has all the Rosenblum trademarks that we value: forward fruit-dominated nose with a good dose of spicy oak, full body and chewy texture, mouth-coating fruit flavors, round tannins, and long fruit-dominated finish. Maybe these wines are not always the highest in complexity, but it's pretty rare to be cheated on flavor in a Rosenblum red. The "Hillside Vineyards" Syrah reminds me of a dark blueberry crisp in both aromas and flavors, with a touch of black raspberry and roasted meast. Extremely chewy but smooth as silk, it has a lot in common with a top-notch Australian Shiraz. Drink this one now: it's delicious. - HK 2007-10-15
