A top-of-the-line Chianti Classico, though from a reputedly off-year. This wine was tasty enough, but not remotely worth the $40 or so retail price it probably commanded. There were some pleasant cherry and coffee flavors along with balanced oak and relatively high acid. A bit tannic and dry in the finish. Good wine, just not enough of the richness and warm-heartedness that we prefer in our reds. - HK 2002-12-01
