This wine actually has more fruit and charm than a lot of '06 Zinfandels I've tasted. That said, it is still fairly rustic feeling with dry and assertive tannins in the finish. But it has nice density and length and a sense of power, displaying briary, tangy dark currant and black raspberry fruit over an earthy core. Excellent with grilled meat; not a wine to sip by itself unless you're ready to have your mouth seriously puckered. The wine might have the balance and fruit to outlast the tannins, in which case this review might look stingy in a few years. But for now, decant it and serve it with the proper food. - HK 2012-08-10
