2006 Seghesio Zinfandel San Lorenzo Block 8
Dry Creek, Sonoma, California

WB Rating: 90

Alcohol by volume: 15.7%
Price at time of purchase: $28.00 (From winery)

Type: Zinfandel
Principal varietal(s):

San Lorenzo Vineyard produces some of Seghesio's most powerful and high-quality (not to mention most expensive) Zins, so the lower-priced Block 8 must be from younger vines or lesser barrels. In any case, this is an outstanding Zinfandel just coming into maturity at age 4. Lively flavors dominated by black raspberry liqueur and dark currants along with plum and coffee. Chewy texture reminiscent of Petite Sirah more than Zinfandel, but the tannins are not overpowering at this point. Will probably only get better over the next year or two. - HK 2011-01-15
