Another Don Sebastiani label (like Plungerhead, though at a lower quality and price point), Smoking Loon makes respectable wines at extremely low prices. This Syrah is a red with no glaring faults, displaying straight-ahead soft red cherry fruit with a hint of blueberry, and reasonable structure for drinking over the near term. Absolutely fine for non-critical barbecue quaffing or big gatherings. - HK 2008-02-06
