I lost track of Stonegate for many years, and bought this '04 Napa Cab at a bargain-basement price at (of all places) Pruett-Hurst Winery in Dry Creek. Apparently Stonegate went under at some point and was purchased by the same people who own Pruett-Hurst. It's likely they'll relaunch the Stonegate brand, though time will tell whether the quality level will be where it once was. This excellent Cab must hearken back to the glory days, since it is absolutely top notch. Big, spicy, deeply flavored Napa Cabernet laden with dark currant and blueberry fruit (almost like a Syrah), barbecue smoke, spice box, violets, milk chocolate. Silky smooth and satisfying mouth feel, lingering finish. Just a delicious Cabernet in its drinkability sweet spot. - HK 2013-04-13
