| 2001 Turning Leaf Syrah |
WB Rating: 85
Alcohol by volume: 13.5%
Price at time of purchase: $5.99 (Safeway (price is with member discount))
Principal varietal(s): Syrah
The nose of this inexpensive Syrah displays smoke, molasses, herbs, and plums. Straightforward in the nose and finish, with flavors of red currants and plums and a vanilla/caramel edge. Not a lot of power, but nicely balanced. Has a touch of that "airplane wine" feel to it, but overall it is a pleasant red for everyday consumption and definitely better than one would expect from a mass-distribution producer. More than the usual difference of opinion among the group, with ratings ranging from 81 - 87. - WB team 2003-03-27

|[mark 2003-03-03] Bought this again, on 2-March-2003, and my opinion hasn\'t changed: Very good and very unique. Safeway has raised the price to $7.99, however. That is still an excellent price. User Rating: 87.|
