1998 was a terrible year for white Burgundy, yet Verget produced yet another excellent, crisp Chardonnay. No one else produces better Chardonnay in this price range! Bone dry, like all Verget's, this one reminded us of a bubble-less Champagne, with a definite toasty edge and nuances of apricot, caramel, and vanilla. We would guess this sees little if any oak, but who cares? It's rare for something to "jump out at you" from a Verget -- these are nicely balanced wines with fairly high acidity that makes them great food wines. - HK 2000-09-14
