This wine, classed only as "Red Wine," does not have the depth and grip of previous Vina Alarba Old Vine Grenaches I've tried, but it's still astonishingly good for the price. Nose displays fairly classy dark berries, cherries, and underbrush aromas. In the mouth, it's quite tannic and a bit sharp, with black cherry and licorice flavors. The acidic midrange and tannic finish seemed to dissipate when wine was tasted the next day, so some of these issues may simply be the young age. - HK 2004-05-27
