There is Gewurztraminer, and then there is Zind Humbrecht single-vineyard Gewurztraminer. Mind-boggling intensity and complexity, but it will get mixed reviews in most company because it is nearly off the graph on any reasonable calibration curve. An amazing blast of fruit (apricots, sweet poached pears, tropical fruits, ...), spice (nutmeg, cinammon, ...), and flowers. Mouth-coating, rich, oily texture, obviously sweet yet balanced with high acidity. You have to be careful what you serve this wine with since it will absolutely blow away most dishes. Probably cheese and certain desserts work best. Amazing stuff, but wimps beware! I can't imagine what the Zind Humbrecht super-late harvest Gewurztraminers must be like, since this "standard" Gewurz already has the density of nuclear matter. You'd probably need to break out the full body armor. - HK 2001-10-30
