David Coffaro
2007 Petite Sirah

Appellation: Dry Creek, Sonoma, California

Review Date : 2010-01-21

Winebork Rating = 87

Tasting Notes

Lots of Dry Creek earthiness in this muscular but surprisingly approachable Petite Sirah. Nose displays deep black fruits, especially black raspberry, along with chocolate, vanilla, and baking pie crust. In the mouth the earthiness is really at the fore, with subdued blackberry/raspberry fruit and bittersweet chocolate notes. Still a bit tough-textured in the mouth and finish, but nothing like what some young throat-ripping California Petite Sirahs can be at a young age. Good wine, though not nearly as pleasant and charming at this stage as the delicious '07 Coffaro Zinfandel. Retail price estimated - this wine was purchased for about $15 in futures, for which David Coffaro has an admirably well-priced policy.
