The 2005 Nunes Vineyard Pinot Noir (bottled under the "Cellar Rat" label) is less voluptuous and velvety than the 2004, as well as possessing about 1% less alcohol. But it also seems a bit more complex, streamlined and fruit forward, with a brighter acid profile and less tannin than the 2004 at a similar stage. Classic red cherry, plum, pomegranate, and charcoal are found in the lovely aromas and flavors, along with an intriguing earthy edge. Full of fruit in the mouth, with a long, attractive, slightly tart finish.
