2006 Field Blend, Two Vineyards

Tasting Notes

Blended from two excellent vineyards (Lone Redwood Ranch in the Russian River AVA and Rockin' R Ranch in Mendocino), this delicious wine is tighter and more Rhone-structured than the fruitbomb '05 Field Blend Block that was made entirely from the Lone Redwood Ranch and was not so Syrah-dominated. The 2006 Field Blend has a lovely nose redolent of sweet blueberry, blackberry, and bing cherry fruit along with creamy background aromas and an attractive dose of sweet spices. In the mouth, the '06 is less potent than the '05 (which had 2% higher alcohol content), and also feels more structured and higher in acidity - though by no means objectionably so. Built with the leaner texture of a good Rhone, but with the delectable fruit density of a ripe California Syrah.
