Tasting Notes

I really wanted to love this wine since the price is so remarkably low and I've always greatly admired the Foxglove Chardonnays for their excellence and price/performance ratio. However, this Zinfandel is just not made in a style I enjoy. Very earthy nose of prunes, sweet berries, and chocolate. Sweet-feeling and (to my taste) overly heavy and somewhat unstructured in the mouth, very like the late-picked Zins I used to struggle with from Ridge. The texture and sweetness also make it, for me, a troublesome food wine. I purchased a case of this wine before tasting it based on super reviews from Parker and others - oops! A preference for this sweeter, heavier style is a matter of taste, and I'm sure many others will have a better feeling about the wine than I do.
