| 2007 Buena Vista Pinot Noir Carneros Carneros, California WB Rating: 86 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $11.99 (Safeway) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir Purchased in a clearance sale at Safeway, this is an amazingly good buy in solid Pinot Noir at a sub-$12 price point. (It wouldn't be badly priced even at $22 or so.) Plum-colored with some lightening at the edges, it is clearly fully mature, but is still fresh and lively. Nice varietal character with round, fairly straightforward black cherry, cola, charcoal, and sweet spicy notes with a touch of rose petal and an attractive sappy edge. Not long or super complex, but elegant and easy going down. Great everyday wine - almost an oxymoron for Pinot - but needs to be drunk up in the relatively near future. - HK 2012-09-25 [Back] |
