| 2001 Falesco Vitiano Umbria, Italy WB Rating: 85 Alcohol by volume: 12.5% Price at time of purchase: $10.00 (Premier Cru) Type: Italian Red Principal varietal(s): 1/3 each Sangiovese, Cabernet, Merlot Tasted the evening after sampling the 2000 Vitiano, I'd rank the 2001 a step below that excellent wine in terms of ripeness and richness. But it is still a great buy and an amazingly serious wine for $10. The 2001 is less overtly fruity than the 2000, with dominant coffee, chocolate, and sage in the nose, and cherry/mocha in the flavors. Still a bit of development to go, but I doubt that it will ever provide quite the pleasure that the 2000 provides. - HK 2003-03-26 [Back] |
