| 2012 Walter Hansel Pinot Noir Cahill Lane Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.2% Price at time of purchase: $39.00 (Restaurant) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot noir This is an outstanding, not to mention outstandingly priced, Pinot Noir that was purchased for $55 at the excellent Hansel Bistro on Guerneville Road. That would be a fair retail price for a wine of this quality, yet its retail price is/was less than $40! This youthful wine has the high-class structure and feel that suggest it will continue to improve even further over the next few years. But even now it has lovely aromatics and flavors of red raspberry, black cherry, plums, charcoal, underbrush. Nicely textured and balanced, with enough tannin to give it authority from start to midrange to finish. (Price shown is listed price for the 2013 on the Walter Hansel website.) - HK 2016-05-26 [Back] |
