| 2007 Chateau Haut-Surget Lalande-de-Pomerol, Bordeaux, France WB Rating: 80 Alcohol by volume: 13.0% Price at time of purchase: $22.00 (Trader Joe) Type: Cabernet / Bordeaux Principal varietal(s): Bordeaux blend At this point the '07 Haut-Surget is extremely closed and fiercely tannic. Drunk over a period of three days, the wine finally showed some level of austere cherry, prune, and currant fruit, but even so remained bitterly tannic, unyielding, one-dimensional, and in general unexpressive. The basic components are here, but I wouldn't touch this one for at least another five years. I'd maybe rate the wine in the mid-80's for its potential, but currently it has roughly the charm level of aqua regia. - HK 2011-01-21 [Back] |
