| 2019 Kumeu River Chardonnay Rays Road Kumeu, New Zealand WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 13.5% Price at time of purchase: $32.94 (JJ Buckley) Type: Chardonnay Principal varietal(s): Chardonnay When ice cold, this wine has a remarkable freshness and energy to it, and an almost Chablis-like profile, with flavors of lemon peel, fragrant straw, and a flint-like mineral edge. As it warms, the richness and complexity of fruit flavors come forward - with some mango-like tropical fruit floating over the citrus core. I have drunk through half a case of this wine over the past 3 years, and my opinion of it has gone up every time I've taste it. It's a pity I'm now out of it. Just a super-refreshing, pure, delicious expression of Chardonnay at a price that was a steal. I'm guessing this will be great for several more years, too. - HK 2025-05-17 [Back] |
