| 2007 Landmark Syrah "Steel Plow," Kivelstadt Family Vineyard Sonoma Valley, California WB Rating: 87 Alcohol by volume: 14.6% Price at time of purchase: $30.00 (from Winery) Type: Syrah Principal varietal(s): Syrah Excellent Syrah, though it strikes me as a little less rich and complete than the wonderful 2006. When younger, this wine showed earthy dark berry fruit and a nice blast of ground black pepper in the nose and flavors. Tasted at age 5, it's now fully mature - nicely balanced, medium-bodied, with good, deep blackberry/currant fruit, some floral aromas, and a definite roasted meat character. The energy level and peppery notes are now more constrained, but this is still a delicious Syrah that will hang in there for a few more years. - HK 2012-07-05 [Back] |
