| 2005 L Aventure Optimus Paso Robles, California WB Rating: 92 Alcohol by volume: 15.3% Price at time of purchase: $39.95 (Los Angeles Wine Company, Palm Desert CA) Type: Cabernet-Syrah blend Principal varietal(s): 51% Syrah, 44% Cabernet, 5% Petit Verdot This is a sensational wine that would stand up to premier-line Cabernets and Bordeaux (or Australian Shiraz/Cab blends) costing twice as much. While still in its infancy, this wine is so rich and complex that it is enjoyable even now. Has the structure, feel, depth, and complexity of an outstanding Cabernet. Deep, smoky currant fruit like a Cabernet, but accompanied by a complex melange of other fruits, especially blueberry and black cherry, and wonderful subtle spiciness. This is a great wine, but one that will absolutely benefit from a few years of aging. - HK 2008-10-16 [Back] |
