| 1999 Martinelli Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 15.9% Price at time of purchase: $92.00 (rare, this was found at Los Gatos Brewing Company restaurant) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Young and unevolved, a true sleeping giant. Probably under-rated here, considering how highly it is rated in the respectable press, but we've got to call it like we taste it. Moderately transparent purple/ruby color. Hints of fruit in the nose, but relatively closed with a dominant impression of alcohol and smoke, like a Scotch whiskey. Very full mouth feel, though fairly high acid. Flavors of Scotch, plums, tart red berries, coffee. Long, subtle fruit finish. Softened considerably after opening, but for now you could get a lot more pleasure for $92 (as purchased in a restaurant). - WB Team 2001-07-19 [Back] |
