| 2000 Old World Winery Zinfandel Pena Creek Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 15.5% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (Direct from winery (707)578-3148. Also try Premier Cru in Berkeley or California Wine Merchants in S.F.) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Tasted for about the 10th time in February of 2004, this wine was again excellent. Checking in at 15.5% alcohol, the wine had softened a bit over the past year, but was still a powerhouse wine that had the appearance of prune juice and more than enough flavor to absorb the alcohol. Forward yet complex nose with earthy black fruit, squashed plums, a jasmine floral edge, and a bargefull of spicy oak. Lots of blackberry and plum fruit in the mouth, a hint of Dry Creek briar, and nice vanilla-oak nuances - WB Team 2004-02-09 [Back] |
