| 2001 Old World Winery Pinot Noir Laughlin Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 15.5% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir An excellent Laughlin Vineyard Pinot Noir from winemaker Darek Trowbridge - his best yet from this vineyard? This wine has tasted richer and more complex with every encounter over the past two years. After the initial blast of alcohol (15.5%!) has subsided, this wine displays excellent complexity and depth. Ripe, deep, and layered with aromas and flavors of cherry, kirsch, red currants, vanilla, and perfumed spice. Has an intriguing terroir-driven, earthy Burgundian edge to the nose. Still youthful and broad-shouldered with some room to develop. - HK 2006-12-05 [Back] |
