| 1999 Old World Winery Pinot Noir Laughlin Vineyard Russian River, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 90 Alcohol by volume: 14.1% Price at time of purchase: $25.00 (from winery) Type: Pinot Noir / Burgundy Principal varietal(s): Pinot Noir To quote one Zinfandel fanatic tired of overpriced, watery Pinot Noirs: "Finally, a Pinot worth drinking!" This is an extremely tasty and intriguing Pinot Noir. When first opened, it had a reticent and almost Zinfandel-like earthiness in the nose, but this later blossomed with moderately intense, classic Pinot Noir cherry and rosebud aromas. This is definitely on the Power rather than the Finesse side of the Pinot Noir spectrum, but is still an elegant, impeccably balanced wine that hides its 14.1% alcohol behind a wall of flavors: Bing cherries, strawberries, black pepper, and spicy oak. Excellent extraction, deep color, terrific finish, good Pinot! - WB Team 2002-01-24 [Back] |
