| 1999 Old World Winery Zinfandel Pena Creek Dry Creek, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 16.1% Price at time of purchase: $15.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): Zinfandel Another opaque purple, powerful, alcoholic Zin from Old World Winery, with a different personality from the equally delicious OWW Laughlin Vineyard Russian River Zin. This one has dense chocolate, dark berries, licorice, leather, and spice in its aromas and flavors. Briary mouth feel with classic Dry Creek earthiness, good concentration, and a lot of round tannins in the finish. This strikes us as one Zin that will improve even further with another year in the bottle. Kudos to winemaker Darek Trowbridge for an outstanding, delicious, fun wine. - WB Team 2002-01-24 [Back] |
