| 2013 Ridge Vineyards Zinfandel East Bench Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 89 Alcohol by volume: 14.9% Price at time of purchase: $28.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 100% Zinfandel This Zin may be a bit less full-bodied than the outstanding 2012, but it's also probably too early to make that call. The East Bench strikes me as a mini-Lytton Springs in most years - classic Dry Creek Zin, a little less depth but also considerably lower price. The 2013 has rich, briary Dry Creek Zin flavors with a nice admixture of spice and dried flowers. Still has room for development but drinking nicely at age 3. As usual with Ridge, full of flavor with lift and freshness in the mouth, as opposed to being a fruit bomb or powerhouse. - HK 2016-06-17 [Back] |
