| 2015 Ridge Vineyards Geyserville Alexander Valley, Sonoma, California WB Rating: 91 Alcohol by volume: 14.5% Price at time of purchase: $40.00 (from winery) Type: Zinfandel Principal varietal(s): 70% Zin, 15% Carignane, 12% P. Sirah, 3% Mataro I've had two bottles of this wine in recent months. Both were excellent (90+) but one was actually showing some signs of age-related flavor evolution (cedar, leather) that I rarely find attractive in Zins (other tasters might violently disagree, of course). But both times, the wine was full of spicy Zinfandel fruit flavors ranging from mulberries to blackberries to currants to cranberries, as well as an attractive savory edge. Finely grained tannins give the wine real authority in the mouth. The "younger" tasting bottle seemed to have years of great drinking ahead of it. - HK 2022-05-23 [Back] |
